Questions

Common questions

How do I turn a day rate into a salary?

Multiply the rate by the days you work in a week and the weeks you work in a year. £350.00 a day, 5 days a week for 46 weeks is 230 days and £80,500 before tax, which leaves £57,247.96 after income tax and National Insurance.

How many weeks should I count?

Count the weeks you expect to be paid for. A year has 52 weeks, and the weeks you take off, or spend between contracts, are not paid at a day rate. At £350.00 a day for 5 days a week, 46 paid weeks leaves 6 unpaid, which is £10,500 of gross pay.

Does this cover working through a limited company?

No. This prices a day rate paid as employment income through PAYE, with income tax and National Insurance taken by the payer. Working through your own company or an umbrella changes what is taxed and when, and we do not publish a figure for it until the method has been checked against the legislation twice.
