Take-home pay calculator 2026–27
Work out your net pay after PAYE, the ACC earners' levy, your student loan and KiwiSaver, with a bonus and a one-off payment, and every step of the sum shown.
Paid with that month's ordinary pay. PAYE and the student loan are worked out on your income for the whole year, the payment included; KiwiSaver is taken from the payment itself.
Not yet included: secondary tax codes, tailored tax codes, the extra pay rate an employer withholds on the day of a bonus, the KiwiSaver temporary rate reduction, child support and Working for Families.
Every figure here is your ordinary pay spread evenly. A bonus or one-off payment is shown below, and in the worked calculation.

What these figures are, and what they are not
Income tax is charged on your income for the year on Inland Revenue's scale, from the first dollar, with no tax-free allowance. The ACC earners' levy is added to it and the independent earner tax credit, on an ME code, comes off it; together they are your PAYE. A student loan repayment is a share of your pay above the repayment threshold, and KiwiSaver is taken from your gross pay at the rate you choose.
The figures are a full year's liability on your income for the year. Each payslip works out PAYE on that pay period alone and drops the cents at each step, so a year of payslips can differ slightly from the year's figure, which Inland Revenue squares up after the year ends.
Common questions
How is income tax worked out in New Zealand?
There is no tax-free allowance: income tax starts at 10.5% on the first dollar and rises through the scale's bands to 39% on income over $180,000. The ACC earners' levy of 1.75%, on earnings up to $156,641, is collected with it, and the two together are your PAYE.
What is the independent earner tax credit?
A credit of $520 a year that comes off your PAYE on an ME tax code, for income from $24,000 to $66,000. Above that it reduces until it reaches nothing at $70,000.
How much is a student loan repayment?
12% of your pay above the repayment threshold of $24,128 a year, taken through your pay when your tax code ends in SL. A bonus is counted in the year's income, so it can add to the repayment.
